We’re making it even easier to print on campus!
The way you print on campus is changing from Monday 27 June. These upgrades will occur by area over the next two to three weeks, so read on for all you need to know.
What’s changing?
If you’ve printed on campus before, you’ll notice a few changes:
- The printing interface – what you see on the touch screen – will look different.
- The printer name will simply be ‘Deakin-Print’ – you no longer have to choose your location.
- You can now print from your personal device/s – *yay* – using some new software called ‘Papercut Print Client’. Head to Deakin’s Software Library, search for ‘Printing’, follow the prompts and install the client to get up and running. You can also just type the direct link into your browser: https://printservice.deakin.edu:9164/setup/.
- To release your print job from the printer, just simply tap your Deakin Card – easy!
If you’re using a lab computer, they’ve already had the new software installed – so just print the same way as always and select the generic ‘Deakin-Print’ queue.
Is printing still free?
It sure is! However, usage caps may apply if necessary, so please think sustainability first. If you don’t need a physical copy, embrace digital to minimise our environmental impact.
But I can’t seem to print everywhere?
It will take up to three weeks to apply the upgrades to all our physical printers. Posters above printers will confirm if that machine has already been updated.
Initially, you may not be able find your print job at your closest machine if it hasn’t yet been updated.
Don’t panic – it will be sorted soon! In the interim, just look for another printer in the library or a computer lab with a poster above it saying, ‘This printer has been upgraded’. You’ll be able to release your print job from there.
What if I need some IT support?
The IT Service Desk is available to help with your Deakin-specific IT issues. Please submit a ticket, initiate a chat online or give us a call if you get stuck.
