Get Active April: join our fun events to fit more movement into your day
We all know that exercise is good for us but, despite our best intentions, it can sometimes feel like life gets in the way. While daylight hours may be getting shorter and assignments are rolling in, it’s important to implement ways to keep moving every day for optimal health, just like we would commit to a study routine.
Finding an activity you enjoy is vital and we can all stay active in so many ways, whether you like skateboarding, playing basketball, jogging or simply walking the dog. It doesn’t have to be a big deal either. Committing to just 30 minutes of daily exercise – even incidental movements such as strolling around campus or parking further away and walking the last leg to your classes – can improve your energy levels, mood, sleep quality and study efforts, and hopefully spur you on to keep going with your new-found habit!
We believe fitness is for every body
Deakin is a strong supporter of the Get Active Victoria and This Girl Can campaigns, both of which encourage movement for all individuals regardless of your starting fitness level or capabilities.
Get Active Victoria aims to support every Victorian to move more, every day, and offers free fitness advice and tools to help you stay moving and motivated.
In partnership with VicHealth, This Girl Can Victoria is about breaking stereotypes and inspiring all women to be active without fear of judgment: we celebrate all women who are giving their all, or giving it a go, but not giving a damn.
Get active with us this April
In the spirit of encouraging everyone to move more for better health, this month DeakinACTIVE is hosting a range of free Get Active April activities online and on campus to help you reach at least 30 minutes of movement each day. Give it a try and see how you feel by the end of the April – we predict you’ll finish the month feeling great and fully energised to tackle your final assessments for T1!
Check out the Active April activities on campus and online during the entire month of April (except during 15–19 April over the Easter break). You can see full details and book all DeakinACTIVE activities via the DeakinMOVES app.
