The Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games will be televised live and free exclusively in HD on Seven and 7plus, so remember to stay tuned to catch all the on-the-ground excitement as it happens.
Mitchell Gourley
Experienced campaigner Mitchell Gourley will enter his fourth Winter Paralympic Games when he hits the slopes in Beijing this week.
Mitchell had a breakthrough year in 2017, recording the biggest win of his career when he claimed gold in the men’s super-combined standing at the 2017 IPC Alpine Skiing Worlds in Tarvisio, Italy.
That same year, he took home a bevy of awards including the Ski and Snowboard Australia Para-Athlete of the Year, Victorian Institute of Sport Elite Athlete with a Disability Award, Victorian Disability Sport and Recreation Awards – Male Sportsperson of the Year and Australian Institute of Sport Para Performance of the Year. He was also named co-captain of the Australian Team for the 2018 Winter Paralympics in PyeongChang.
Amid his competitive career, Mitchell has been an Athlete Representative on the World Para-alpine Skiing Sport Technical Committee in addition to completing his Master of Business (Sport Management) at Deakin University.
‘I am very aware of the positive impact sport can have and how it can be a vehicle to get people to connect, improve people’s health and open things up like pathways to employment and, ultimately, give people with a disability the lives they deserve to live,’ said Mitchell.
Mitchell will be looking to top his previous best Paralympic position of fifth place at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Paralympic Games and we can’t wait to see him chase that podium finish. Good luck, Mitchell!
