We’re supporting international students located overseas to study and return to Australia
We’re excited to welcome all our international students back to study at our vibrant campuses but we know there is a lot to plan. We understand that some international students may choose to continue to study remotely for Trimester 1, 2022.
To help you continue your studies and support the best transition to Australia, we encourage all international students located overseas to visit the 2022 Study information for international students to let us know your travel plans.
For the latest COVID-19 settings, visa requirements, information about vaccination requirements, as well as Federal and State Government announcements, please make sure you continue to monitor the International student COVID-19 and COVIDSafe FAQs.
How the International Student Assistance Program can help you
We recognise the challenges students studying outside Australia face due to current border closures. To help you navigate any challenging circumstances, Deakin is pleased to offer a new counselling service to students outside of Australia.
The new service is:
- free to Deakin students
- available in English and local languages
- available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year
- accessible via phone and video chat, and face-to-face in specific locations across 130 countries.
- designed to connect you to local resources to help you manage emotional, practical or physical needs
- serviced by counsellors who are accredited and bound by professional standards regarding confidentiality – any information provided to them is at your discretion and will not be shared with Deakin.
Remember this free support is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for whenever you need help. For more information, visit the International Student Assistance Program webpage.

Academic and study support
We want to help all students achieve their study outcomes and goals. A range of comprehensive help is available through our Study Support resources and programs.
If you need an assignment extension or want to discuss special consideration, remember you should first contact the relevant academic teaching team in your unit site.
Additional health and wellbeing support
During such a difficult time, it’s essential that you look after your physical and mental health and wellbeing. If you’re located in Australia, you can access the following services:
- Disability support – if you have a disability, health or mental health condition that affects your study or participation in uni life, the Disability Resource Centre (DRC) can help with information and services.
- Multifaith chaplains– offering compassionate support to everyone, whether you’re religious or not. A reminder that we also have prayer rooms located on campus for your convenience.
DUSA support
Deakin’s student union can help you in a range of ways, including through student advocacy and legal services.
Returning back into the community following home quarantine
You can visit DUSA website and the Deakin Life blog to check out upcoming events at Deakin and meet new people. We have also created a list of free activities and events that are occurring across Melbourne and Victoria throughout December and January in our Summer Program and the Summer Program calendar to help you relax, recharge and reconnect with others.
