Our campuses are coming back to life – we look forward to welcoming you soon

We cannot wait to re-energise our campuses with face-to-face learning and student experiences in 2022 after two years of predominately online learning for all students.

‘We are looking forward to seeing our campuses regain their vibrancy with students returning for many face-to-face classes, seminars and hands-on learning activities,’ said Professor Iain Martin, Vice-Chancellor of Deakin University.

The University community is excited to welcome back all students to our campuses, especially our international students as they have the opportunity to return to Australia for face-to-face study.

‘While it will not be the same as 2019, our goal is to deliver as normal an experience as we can, subject to the (COVID) mitigations that we are all living within our communities,’ said Professor Martin.

Campus life in T1/S1

In Trimester 1/Semester 1 2022, we’re getting back to campus with many classes, seminars and hands-on learning activities to be delivered in face-to-face settings.

For those of you who have opted to study exclusively online, you will continue to be enabled to study flexibly via our premium online learning in Deakin’s digital learning environment.

For our commencing students, you will have an entire Orientation program and OFest event schedule to ensure you have a great start to your study and university experience.

‘I encourage returning students, particularly our international students returning to Australia, to participate in welcome back activities and many on-campus and online events throughout the study period,’ said Professor Martin.

You can keep up to date with events and activities on the DeakinLife blog and the DUSA events calender

Current COVIDSafe settings

The safety of our community remains our priority, and we will continue to follow government guidelines. Large indoor activities will be limited to scheduled learning activities during T1/S1, with students and staff who attend on-campus activities adhering to the required COVIDSafe settings and responsibilities.

Following extensive consultation through January, Deakin’s COVID-19 Vaccination Procedure has been approved by the University Executive and is effective from 31 January. The Procedure outlines Deakin’s COVID-19 vaccination requirements as part of the University’s commitment to providing a safe on-campus learning and working environment and protecting the health and safety of all University students, staff, contractors, and visitors who attend Deakin campuses or locations.

All students, staff and visitors must be fully vaccinated to attend campus. Face masks are required indoors (unless you have a medical exemption), and proof of vaccination is required in advance. If you haven’t done so already, please submit your evidence of full vaccination using the Vaccination Status Form.

At this stage for higher education, fully vaccinated means having received two doses of an approved vaccine for the majority of our students. However, there is absolutely no doubt about thereal and very substantial risk reduction that exists for people who have had two doses of an approved vaccine and received a booster shot. We strongly encourage all students to take the opportunity to receive a booster shot as soon as you are eligible.

If you have questions or require further information, please check the numerous resources available within our COVIDSafe Student FAQs.

Got questions? We’re here to help

We acknowledge that many students and staff have questions about the vaccination requirement and that this is a challenging time for some individuals. We encourage all students to access the available student health and wellbeing and support services where appropriate and to please get in touch with Student Central if you have any specific questions.

‘While we cannot map exactly how 2022 will play out, I am very much looking forward to seeing students on campus this year, and I wish you every success with your study,’ said Professor Martin.
