Show your support for the AFLW Pride Round
The inaugural AFLW Pride Round is an initiative by the AFL to promote LGBTIQ+ inclusion, aimed at giving every player in the competition an opportunity to celebrate inclusiveness in football. While the LGBTIQ+ community comprise an estimated 11% of Australia’s population, research shows LGBTIQ+ people have some of the lowest rates of participation in sport, recreation and physical activity out of any community in society.
This will be the first time that the Geelong Cats have hosted the AFLW Pride Round, providing a fantastic opportunity for the Geelong community to promote inclusiveness in the game. We all seek to create a sense of belonging and collaborative community environment for our lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and gender diverse students and employees to learn, live and work, free of prejudice and discrimination – and events such as this are a brilliant catalyst to foster a sense of inclusion in sport and the community more broadly.
