Feel a bit shy when it comes to networking? Learn how to build your professional network

Are you interested in strengthening your professional network but feel a bit nervous or out of your depth when it comes to connecting with others?

Deakin Launch Network are hosting a ‘Networking Mindset’ webinar series to provide you and your alumni peers opportunities to connect, develop your networking skills and learn from each other. Each episode will have a distinct theme and feature guest speakers who will share their unique professional insights.

The next webinar in the series will focus on what really goes into fostering confidence in successful networking, plus we’ll also share strategies and tips to enable you to positively engage with people.

Learn how to connect with others

Networking is a crucial tool in job hunting and boosting your employability. Expanding your contacts can open doors to new opportunities for career advancement, meaningful connections in the industry or simply gaining access to valuable information. It allows you to connect with industry professionals or experienced peers and gain assistance, support and advice regarding your desired career path. By building confidence in the art of networking, not only will you achieve personal growth but you will also make lasting connections in the process.

We have invited guest speakers Dr Chie Adachi and Daniel Nguyen to provide industry insights in this upcoming webinar. You will have the opportunity to participate in a live Q&A session and gain tips on how to build a professional network and confidently participate in networking. There will also be ample opportunities to share your own experiences and learn from other students and alumni.

Our guest speakers

Dr Chie Adachi is Director of Digital Learning at Deakin University. Prior to this, she was the Senior Lecturer of Digital Learning Innovation at Deakin. She holds a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Edinburgh, and formerly lived in Japan and the United Kingdom before settling in Australia.

Daniel Nguyen is a Deakin alumnus and now founder of his startup business Attractio Pty Ltd. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours from Deakin and was recognised as the 2018 Victorian International Student of the Year during his studies. Outside of the University, he was a non-executive director and company secretary for the Blackburn South Community Branch of the Bendigo Bank.

Our facilitators

Rayna Wu is studying towards a Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning and is a Deakin Launch Network Leader. She also works as a Banking Consultant at ANZ. Rayna has participated in various Students Helping Students programs as a Student Mentor and Orientation Ambassador to assist Deakin’s newly commencing students and give back to the University community.

Zuairia Tasnim is a second-year Bachelor of Business Analytics student and Deakin Launch Network Leader. She has been a Student Mentor in the Faculty of Business and Law’s Peer Mentor Program where she supported a diverse range of international students in navigating a new education system and life overseas. She is passionate about the myriad uses of data, and utilising and integrating data-driven technology networks to bring a positive impact in the tertiary education system.
