Have your say on proposed changes to the Student Code of Conduct
Being a Deakin student means you’re part of a community. The way we all act can have a major impact on the University, as well as on our individual and collective wellbeing. We want to ensure that everyone in our vibrant and diverse community – students, staff and visitors – feels safe, respected and included, and has an enjoyable Deakin experience.
That’s why there’s more to being a Deakin student than just classes, assignments, exams or grades. While these are really important, one of the most crucial things you need to understand during your time here is the Student Code of Conduct.
This policy underpins your enrolment at Deakin. It helps you understand how you’re expected to behave at Deakin and how you must approach your academic work.
It also outlines what could happen if you don’t live up to our values, either in the academic space or through your behaviour. We encourage you to become familiar with these rules, as there can be serious consequences for student misconduct.
How we’re proposing to change the code
We’re proposing some changes to the Student Code of Conduct to ensure Deakin’s values are up to date and upfront. We’re keen to hear from you – our students – and are inviting you to comment on the below proposed additions to the code:
- our commitment to upholding freedom of speech and academic freedom
- Deakin’s values
- Deakin’s commitment to students
- a comprehensive list of policies that implement the principles in the code.
View the revised Student Code of Conduct, and then submit your feedback by emailing [email protected]. Consultation closes on Monday 30 August.
