Deakin is pleased to advise that there has been no COVID-19 transmission associated with the current exposure sites at the Waurn Ponds campus.

Deep cleaning of the on-campus exposure sites is now complete to the satisfaction of the Department of Health, and they have approved the re-opening of the buildings, subject to the current lockdown requirements.

The health, safety and wellbeing of our students, staff and visitors remain our top priority. We encourage everyone in the Deakin community to monitor the exposure site information and get tested immediately if you develop any symptoms of COVID-19.

Anyone who has visited these sites during the exposure periods listed below, should get tested immediately and then isolate until they have received confirmation of a negative result.

Information on testing site locations is available here.

A drive-through testing site has been established at Deakin in Car Park 8, Nicol Drive North, at the Waurn Ponds Campus. Operating hours are Monday to Sunday 8am to 5pm.

Statement from Deakin Vice-Chancellor Professor Iain Martin

Deakin has been notified that a staff member with a confirmed case of COVID-19 was present at our Waurn Ponds Campus on Wednesday 14 July, between 9am and 3pm.

Based on our understanding of the staff member’s movements, Deakin has temporarily closed buildings IC, IB and JB for deep cleaning. The staff member was not involved in any teaching activity while on campus.

We have identified a small number of close contacts on campus and have already advised those people to isolate and get tested. However, if you were at the Waurn Ponds Campus on Wednesday 14 July, anytime between 9am and 3pm, I urge you to watch and follow the advice of the Department of Health and Human Services.

We are working closely with the department to implement the appropriate incident response. I encourage everyone in the Deakin community to monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 and get tested immediately if any symptoms develop.

We are closely supporting our staff and send our best wishes for a speedy recovery on behalf of the Deakin community.
