The Suburban Rail Loop is coming to Burwood – have your say now!
Have you heard about the new Suburban Rail Loop? This major state government infrastructure project, which will comprise more than 90 kilometres of rail loop, will link every major Melbourne train line from Frankston to Werribee. Click on the below image to see a full-size map.
One of the new underground stations will be built at Burwood, adjacent to Deakin’s campus. The initial plans for Burwood Station show the general location of the station in relation to Deakin and surrounds. This will improve both connectivity and the existing public transport conditions for staff, students and nearby residents.
Find out more about the benefits for the Deakin community in this short video.
What do you think about the proposal?
To help inform planning and investigative works, you can complete a survey on station design, construction impacts and environmental matters. Every opinion matters, so have your say.
You can also attend drop-in Community Information Sessions hosted by the Suburban Rail Loop Authority. You must register to attend these events:
When: Tuesday 13 July and Wednesday 21 July, from 4–7pm.
Where: Burwood Corporate Centre, Building BC.
Deakin has been, and continues to be, in extensive discussions with the Suburban Rail Loop Authority to ensure the best possible outcomes for our community.
Our initial feedback has emphasised the importance of a high-quality, grade-separated pedestrian and cycling connection across Burwood Highway, and the need to effectively integrate multi-model (bus, tram and train) public transport. We believe these inclusions are imperative to creating a safe and accessible public transport hub for the area.
We’ll let you know of progress updates and any upcoming consultation opportunities. You can also find out more about this project at the Suburban Rail Loop website or on Facebook.
