Take control of your learning journey with the DeakinSEATS program

Whether you’re new to university or wondering how you can get the most out of your Deakin studies this trimester, we’ve created a series of virtual workshops to equip you with the essential skills you’ll need to succeed.

The Student Engagement and Transition Support (SEATS) program has been developed by the Faculty of Health based on identified student needs and established psychological theories. SEATS is now available for all Deakin students this trimester to help you thrive in your studies. Take a look below at the various sessions available this study period that will help you develop a range of valuable personal and professional skills.

DeakinSEATS sessions in T3, 2021

Efficient Time Management and Achieving Goals
Develop time management skills and understand how to cultivate self-efficacy to reach your full potential. We will help you focus on the most useful predictors of success and develop your own personalised understanding of what success at Deakin looks like. Thrive in your studies by setting realistic and achievable goals, and increase your feeling of connection and belonging with the Deakin community.

Learning and Motivation for Study Success
Develop skills to improve your learning capacity. Follow active learning techniques to increase your ability to retain and use information. Find out how to foster an environment that is conducive to learning and motivation. You will gain an understanding of the self-determination theory and how to stay motivated throughout your student journey.

Enhance your Resilience and Wellbeing
Build resilience and develop a growth mindset to deal with challenges you may face while studying at university. You will learn how using your strengths can help you achieve your goals. Become familiar with the PERMA model and how to cultivate an environment that fosters wellbeing. Pick up practical tips to help you persevere through the more difficult times.

Building Confidence through Effective Communication Skills
Learn how to build your confidence through effective communication skills. Develop your interpersonal skills and have meaningful conversations. Learn how to be more productive in your communication and overcome barriers that prevent you from engaging fully in the university experience.

Strategies for Managing Stress and Anxiety
Beat end of trimester worries by understanding external and internal factors that cause stress and anxiety. Understand how to differentiate between stress and anxiety, and learn about emotion and problem-focused coping. Learn some useful strategies to ease you through completing assessments and overcoming hurdles.
