We’re full steam ahead for T2 – but help is here if your placement or return to Victoria is affected by restrictions
We’re so excited to kick off Trimester 2/Semester 2 (T2/S2), with OWeek beginning on Monday 5 July! We’ll be welcoming commencing and returning students to our vibrant campuses and online spaces. Visit deakin.edu.au/orientation-itinerary to register for your Orientation sessions, and enjoy food and fun times during DUSA’s OFest.
If you’re enrolled in campus-based study, you can look forward to a significant increase in face-to-face timetabled classes, seminars and other learning activities. These will be delivered alongside online learning resources and experiences as part of your integrated study. If your study mode is wholly online, you’ll continue to enjoy our premium online learning model.
We encourage all students to attend campus when possible to study, meet friends, use the library (book a room for a group project!) or make use of our wonderful facilities. Our many teaching and learning spaces are no longer subject to any density or capacity limits. Just remember to check in properly and follow all COVIDSafe requirements.
While COVID-19 restrictions in Victoria continue to ease, other Australian states and territories are implementing new restrictions and lockdowns to address local outbreaks of COVID-19. We’ll continue to monitor the nationwide situation to ensure the safety of the whole Deakin community. We’re also here to help if your return to Victoria for T2/S2 or your course placement is affected by these restrictions.
I need advice on my T2/S2 placement
The feasibility of continuing a current placement or beginning a planned one will depend on your personal circumstances.
If you’re already on placement in Victoria or interstate, you can continue if possible and permitted. You must follow the specific state or territory government requirements and liaise directly with your placement provider.
If you have a planned placement that requires you to travel within the state or territory you’re currently in, you should check the relevant government website for directives, hotspot information and travel restrictions:
- Australian Capital Territory COVID-19
- New South Wales COVID-19
- Northern Territory COVID-19
- Queensland COVID-19
- South Australia COVID-19
- Tasmania COVID-19
- Victoria COVID-19
- Western Australia COVID-19.
If you’re currently in Victoria and have a planned placement that requires you to travel interstate, you should speak to your placement team/unit chair for further information. Your placement may be postponed or cancelled while COVID-19 restrictions are in place.
If you live in a border town, some exemptions may apply if you’re travelling to another border town or if restrictions ease in a particular area. This is a complex and changing situation, so please continue to monitor the guidelines and restrictions.
Remember that you may also need to quarantine for up to 14 days following any travel. If you’re unsure about any aspect of your placement, contact your Unit Chair as soon as possible for help. Unit sites with more information about study requirements will be available on DeakinSync from Monday 5 July.
I need to travel back to Victoria for T2/S2
If you’ve travelled interstate during the trimester break and want to return to Victoria for T2/S2, you should check the Victorian COVID-19 travel permits webpage for information and follow those guidelines. This may include quarantining for up to 14 days.
If you’re worried that you may have attended an exposure site, visit the Victorian Government exposure site listing, which includes interstate exposure sites, and follow the instructions explicitly. You can also call the coronavirus hotline on 1800 675 398 for advice at any time.
