How to make the most of campus while we continue with blended study in T2/2021

Welcome to Trimester 2/Semester 2 (T2/S2). This study period, we intend to bring our campuses even more back to life – and we need your help!

If you’re undertaking campus-based study, you can look forward to an expanded range of physical learning activities in T2/S2, including face-to-face timetabled classes, seminars, regular consultations and supervised activities like placements, fieldwork, study tours and research activities. All activities will comply with government and COVIDSafe guidelines.

These will continue to be delivered alongside online learning resources and experiences. Make sure you check your timetable and unit sites to see how your particular learning activities will work.

If you choose to study online via the Cloud Campus in T2/S2, you’ll continue to be supported via our premium online learning model.

While it’s great being able to study in a flexible way, we also know that nothing beats that campus vibe. Here’s how to get the best of both worlds.

Attend your timetabled classes – whether on‑campus or online

It’s important to stick to your regular timetable and attend your campus-based or online live classes as often as possible. Learning is basically a social activity – picking up on cues from others helps confirm and extend your understanding.

So attending your class in person or joining the live online session (rather than watching a recording later on) will actually make it easier for you to absorb and understand the material. It also helps you to establish a routine and manage your time effectively.

If your class is being delivered online, you’ll access it from your unit site, usually through tools such as Zoom or Blackboard Collaborate Ultra.

Use our on-campus learning and group spaces

We think our campuses are pretty special places, and we know how much our students have missed hanging out there. So, even if some of your classes or seminars are delivered online, we encourage you to mix things up by regularly accessing them from an on-campus learning space instead of home (hello, free wi-fi!).

We offer a range of options, including private rooms for group work or small meetings, quiet individual zones and open collaborative areas, and you can use facilities like printers and AV equipment. Some spaces require you to book ahead of time, while you can just drop into others.

You’ll find learning spaces at the following locations:

You can also book study desks and booths at each of our campus libraries – or consider studying in the fresh air in one of our many beautiful outdoor spaces (weather permitting, of course)!

Access our services and facilities

There’s so much more to our campuses than just the lecture theatres and learning spaces. As we look to return to COVID-Normal settings, it’s time to make the most of the range of facilities and atmosphere that only campus can provide.

From the coffee and food options to sports facilities and activities, health and wellbeing services, DUSA action and other events, we hope you’ll soak up the campus vibe with your mates throughout T2.

Remember to be COVIDSafe

While we want as much campus activity as possible during T2, the safety of our community remains Deakin’s priority. To attend campus, you must:

Our learning spaces will be subject to any access and capacity restrictions in place at the time, so we recommend you check our COVIDSafe info first. At times, there may also be differences between the rules that apply across various parts of Victoria. Know the restrictions that apply to you, no matter where you are.

We can’t wait to see you on campus in T2!
