Young woman on bus wearing a mask

18 May 2021

If you use public transport, you still need to wear a face mask

It’s wonderful to see so many students on campus this trimester, and we hope you’re enjoying the increasing number of events and activities happening both at Deakin and in the wider community.

While many of the restrictions we lived through last year have now been lifted, one that remains is the requirement to wear a face mask on all forms of public transport.

This is to protect you and your fellow passengers.

So if you get to Deakin by public transport, or travel anywhere by bus, train, tram or ferry, you must wear a properly fitted face mask that covers your nose and mouth for the entire journey.

It’s also recommended you wear a face mask when you can’t maintain 1.5 metres distance from other people, such as at busy stations and stops.

Children under the age of 12 and adults with exemptions are the only passengers who don’t have to wear a face mask.

These rules also apply on the Geelong Intercampus Bus

The Intercampus Bus is a shuttle service between the Waurn Ponds and Waterfront campuses, with a stop at Barwon Valley Activity Centre (BVAC), 1 Barwon Heads Road, Belmont – opposite Kmart.

You can park your car at BVAC for free and complete your journey to either Geelong campus on the bus. The bus services the BVAC car park from Monday to Friday, 7.05am to 8.30pm (excluding University holidays). It’s also a good option if you need to travel between Waurn Ponds and Waterfront during the day.

Remember: if you use the intercampus bus, you must wear a face mask throughout your trip.
