Help save lives by joining Team Deakin in the 2021 Tertiary Blood Challenge!
Did you know that every week Australia needs 31,000 blood donations? Or that donated blood only lasts 42 days?
Here’s your chance to help save lives and bring glory to Deakin at the same time (you can even do it while sitting down!). Join staff and students as we take part in this year’s annual Tertiary Blood Challenge, run by the Australian Red Cross.
We’ll be competing as a Lifeblood Team against other higher education teams from across the country in four categories:
- most donations
- most new donors
- most plasma donations
- highest year-on-year growth.
How it works
Simply donate blood or plasma between 1 March and 31 May. You’ll save three lives in the process!
To join the challenge:
- Register a blood donor account online or log in if you’re already a donor.
- Join our Lifeblood Team by following the link in the top-right corner after you’ve logged in. Search for team Deakin University.
- Book a donation. Every donation you make goes towards our team’s tally!
Rest assured that donating blood is still safe, whether or not you’ve had the COVID-19 vaccine. Learn more about how donors, volunteers and patients are being protected while blood donations continue.
Spread the word
This isn’t a solo event – it’ll take a team to win, so recruit your friends, spread the word on social and tell your family.
In 2020, we collectively saved 8,073 lives, with 684 donations coming directly from the 2020 Tertiary Blood Challenge. This included 68 new donors. We’re ready to knock this figure out of the park in 2021 – but we need your help!
