COVID-19 testing guidance
Have you or someone you know been recently tested, or need to be tested, for COVID-19?
Do you have reason to suspect you may have COVID-19?
If you are experiencing flu-like symptoms or suspect you may have contracted COVID-19, assess your symptoms via the Symptom Checker and seek medical attention.
- Call ahead to book an appointment with your doctor, general practitioner or emergency centre and advise them of your symptoms, travel history, and any recent close contact you may have had with someone who has a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19.
- To locate your nearest service, visit the National Health Service Directory or call the dedicated COVID-19 hotline on 1800 675 398.
- If you require a test, these are the current locations of testing centres.
Follow these testing and quarantine guidelines
See the testing and quarantine guidelines below to see what your obligations are regarding getting tested, isolating at home, and/or notifying Deakin about your circumstances.

Deemed to be a close contact to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19? | Quarantine (isolation) for 14 days. An initial test is undertaken. Re-testing at Day 11. Cohabitating with someone who is experiencing symptoms and has undergone testing? | Get tested and seek medical advice – act according to the testing centre direction and medical advice. A distant contact, to someone who has either tested positive to COVID-19, or who is at higher risk of COVID-19 for another reason, such as being an interstate traveller, pre-surgery etc (but who is not experiencing symptoms)? | Follow the advice from health authorities which may include testing and/or isolation. Remember:
- When in isolation, you must stay at home and not have close or physical contact with others.
- Be attentive to ‘no caller ID’ phone calls, which are used by the Department of Health and contact tracing teams to get in touch with you.
- Even if you receive a negative result, if you have been identified as ‘a close contact’ of a confirmed COVID-19 case and have not yet completed your designated quarantine (isolation) period, you must stay at home until advised otherwise by health authorities.
