Looking to upskill in 2021? Join a DUSA webinar or short course this month
What are your professional plans for 2021 and beyond? Short courses and webinars are an excellent way to learn new skills and stand out from the crowd, particularly when applying for a new job.
Deakin University Student Association (DUSA) provides a range of training opportunities throughout the year in a variety of different areas, from first aid and hospitality, to first home owners seminars and trade accreditations.
Here’s a peek at the online and face-to-face courses DUSA are hosting throughout March.
Support others with mental health concerns
DUSA’s Mental Health First Aid short course will provide you with the skills to recognise common mental health problems, learn more about risk factors and develop an awareness of treatments available.
Learn how to provide initial support to someone experiencing a mental health problem and how to take appropriate action if a crisis situation arises. This blended course will require you to complete an online component prior to two half-day online training sessions on Wednesday 17 March and 24 March (you must attend both sessions to complete the course).
Learn how to administer basic first aid and CPR
Did you know some employers require their employees to hold basic first aid certificates? Or perhaps you’d like to learn essential life-saving skills for your own knowledge. Register now to complete your first aid qualifications in 2021!
You can choose to complete:
- Level 1 First Aid sessions at either Burwood (beginning Friday 19 March) or Waurn Ponds (beginning Friday 26 March).
- Level 2 First Aid sessions at Burwood (beginning Friday 19 March) and Waurn Ponds (beginning Friday 26 March).
Please note these First Aid short courses comprise two sessions and you must attend both to receive your associated accreditations, but you don’t need to complete a Level 1 course before participating in Level 2.
We’re also offering a half-day Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course in both Burwood (Friday 19 March) and Waurn Ponds (Friday 26 March). Please note you won’t need to complete the CPR course separately if you’ve completed the First Aid sessions, as this CPR training is covered in the both the Level 1 and 2 First Aid courses.
Thinking about completing your First Aid qualification but you’re not sure? Learn why First Aid is such a critical skill to have and how it saves lives in our free ‘First Aid Taster’ webinar on Thursday 18 March! You will also find out what is included in the First Aid courses and have an opportunity to ask our trainer Paul any questions you may have. If you enjoy this session, you may decide to go ahead and enrol to receive your First Aid qualification.
Looking for hospitality work?
Then join our dual Barista Coffee and Responsible Serving of Food short course, designed for beginners who’d like to secure a job in the hospitality industry!
In this course, you will learn the fundamentals of making coffee, creating coffee art and will obtain your Responsible Food Handlers certificate. This course will be held across two days (Saturday 20 March and Saturday 27 March) at the Victorian Bar School in Melbourne’s CBD.
Be savvy with your savings
Join us online on Wednesday 31 March to chat about budgeting, savings and working towards a debt-free future. We’ll discuss strategies you can use, things to avoid and teach you some simple steps to get your personal finances in order this year!
