Excited about coming to campus? We’re ready for you!
As Trimester 1 gets ever closer, we have a confession to make: we’re a teeny bit excited!
As you walk around campus, there’s a feeling of anticipation and new beginnings in the air. Our staff, peer mentors and ambassadors are ready and waiting and can’t wait to see you on campus.
So whether you’re a commencing student in 2021, or you studied online last year, we’re looking forward to all students being able to enjoy a vibrant campus experience this trimester.
Now, let’s talk logistics: what’s going to be open and when; and how to make the most of the many on-campus facilities and opportunities.
Before you leave home
The current risk of community transition is low, however, it’s essential that we continue to take the COVID situation seriously. So it’s important you complete your COVIDSafe learning module before your first visit to campus. This will help to ensure the wellbeing of the whole Deakin community – and it only takes about 15 minutes.
And remember to always carry a mask with you while you’re on campus – keep it with your phone or keys so you don’t forget it!
Check out the video below for some useful info about how to stay COVIDSafe on campus, and where you can find help should you need it.

Getting here
There’s a range of ways to travel to and from campus.
- By public transport: There’s a number of different ways to get to campus using public transport. These services are operated by Public Transport Victoria, so you’ll need a Myki card to travel. Geelong students can also use the free intercampus shuttle bus to travel between the Waterfront and Waurn Ponds campuses.
- By car: there’s plenty of parking spaces at each campus but they’re in high demand, especially in the first six weeks of the trimester. To avoid a fine, make sure you’ve got a parking permit from Monday 15 March (parking remains free until that date).
- By bike or on foot: All of our campuses have great active transport facilities, including showers, change rooms, lockers and secure bike storage, which make it easy for you to get here by foot or pedal-power.
Once you’ve made it to campus, don’t forget to check in to each space you’ll be in for more than 15 minutes.
Getting around campus
If you’ve never been to campus before, the best thing you can do to find your feet is to take a guided campus tour. Running in OWeek and Week 1, the tours will go for about 20 minutes, be led by our friendly Orientation Ambassadors (they’re the ones in the bright pink t-shirts!), and be totally COVIDSafe.
If you’re a returning student but haven’t been to campus in a while, take a tour to reorient yourself and to check out some of the amazing new facilities that have been completed over the last year, including Building LC at Burwood Campus.
You must register to attend a tour and check-in before it starts:
- Register for a Burwood campus tour or take a sneak peek with our Burwood video tour
- Register for a Waurn Ponds campus tour or take a sneak peek with our Waurn Ponds video tour
- Register for a Waterfront campus tour or take a sneak peek with our Waterfront video tour
- Register for a Warrnambool campus tour or take a sneak peek with our Warrnambool video tour.
Oh, and one more thing: we’re giving away a UE Wonderboom speaker to three lucky students who complete a campus tour. Full competition info and T&Cs are available when you register.
What to check out
There are heaps of spaces to check out while you’re on campus, so get to know some of the spots where you may hang out, study and relax on a regular basis:
- Student Central hubs: your one-stop-shop for any questions about your course or uni life. The hubs open for face-to-face or online appointments.
- Deakin Library: take some time to explore one of the most popular and important spots of all! Limited face-to-face services will be available at the start of the trimester or you can talk to library staff online through Library Chat. You can also take a virtual tour on the library website.
- DeakinACTIVE: check out the awesome fitness facilities and see what (COVIDSafe) classes might help you achieve your fitness goals. You might even be tempted to take up a membership!
- DUSA: your Student Association is run by students just like you! Drop by to say hi and discover loads of clubs, courses and social activities on offer!
- Cafes: you’ll probably be needing a coffee or tasty snack to refuel by now, so discover the array of awesome cafes on each campus – a great place to meet friends and chat.
