DeakinACTIVE is the home of sport, health and wellbeing at Deakin.
How are you (or the ladies in your life) looking after yourself while we’re in lockdown? It’s more important than ever for us to take proactive steps to manage our health and wellbeing right now.
DeakinACTIVE is a big supporter of Women’s Health Week and to celebrate, this week we’re sharing a range of special health and fitness advice and activities to help you recharge, get inspired and get MOVEing for spring!
Tuesday 8 September
- Give it a go with This Girl Can
This Girl Can celebrates women who are giving their all, or giving it a go, but not giving a damn. In partnership with VicHealth, the campaign is about breaking stereotypes and inspiring all women to be active, and features active local women instead of professional athletes or airbrushed Instagram models. The This Girl Can Victoria campaign has led to an incredible one in five Victorian women increasing their physical activity since the campaign launched in March 2018. Check out the This Girl Can Victoria Facebook page for a range of activities and advice to get you moving!
- Meditate the day away
As we head into the end of Trimester 2, we could all benefit from learning some techniques to help calm us and hone our focus ahead of exams. Join DeakinACTIVE trainer Jodie live on the DeakinACTIVE Instagram page from 7.30–8pm for a guided meditation session to wind you down for the evening.
Wednesday 9 September
- Tune in for tips from a wellbeing coach
Today, wellbeing coach, author and founder of LaughLife Wellbeing Programs Ros Ben-Moshe will talk to us live from 12.30–1pm on the DeakinACTIVE Instagram page about how we can achieve balance and optimise our health and wellbeing. Don’t miss it!
- Get grooving this afternoon!
Are you battling a mid-afternoon study slump? Shake it off in our female-only dance class, kicking off online from 1.30–2pm with DeakinACTIVE trainer Daphne!
- Are you meeting your nutritional needs right now?
It’s easy to lapse into unhelpful habits when we feel stressed or bored. Join nutritionist and dietician Dannielle Hibberd on Instagram Live from 7.30–8pm for tips on how to nourish yourself with good food while we’re spending more time at home.
Thursday 10 September
- Are you OK?
This simple question could change a life, particularly this year as we are all facing uncertainty in lockdown. Thursday 10 September is R U OK? Day and we encourage you to check in with those around you (in addition to paying attention to your own mental health). You don’t need to be an expert to reach out – just a good friend and a great listener.
Friday 11 September
- Your health MOVEing forward
To round out the week, we’ll hear more valuable advice and health tips from accredited practising dietitian and exercise physiologist Kate Save from 12–12.30pm on Instagram Live. Kate is also CEO and founder of Be Fit Food and Director of Peninsula Physical Health and Nutrition, so tune in over lunchtime and learn more from her varied expertise!
Phew – what a week!
Remember to keep an eye on the DeakinACTIVE Facebook and Instagram pages throughout this week, as well as the DeakinMOVES app, for extra daily workouts, blog posts and more information and resources relating to nutrition, resistance training, yoga for better sleep, plus much more!
