Want to improve your study performance? Find online sessions, tools and advice in UniStart
Are you new to university this year? Or maybe you’re well into your course but you want to refine your study habits and improve your marks? A great way to boost your academic performance while studying online is to visit Deakin’s UniStart site to learn how to hone your study skills.
UniStart offers study resources and online sessions to help you build your study skills, and has tools, resources and checklists that you can read at your own convenience. The workshops and resources are suitable for all students who want a refresher on studying at university.
Online UniStart sessions
If you missed any of your orientation sessions, don’t worry! You can access session recordings in UniStart, as well as other important video resources, to view in your own time.
There are recorded sessions available for topics such as:
- Tips for online learning
- Study tips for new students
- An introduction to Deakin’s online learning spaces
- From note-taking to writing
- Writing in your own words
- Referencing made easy – online on Tuesday 24 March, 6–7pm
- English for Uni
- Essential academic skills for masters by coursework

How to watch an online session
At the scheduled time, navigate to UniStart, click on the black UniStart sessions button on the right-hand side and click on Join a UniStart session now. Then find your session in the Blackboard Collaborate platform. You’ll also find the recorded versions of past sessions here for you to watch at a time that best suits you.
