What is DeakinMOVES?
DeakinMOVES is an app that helps you track your daily movement by bringing all your other health apps activity into the one place. The app lets you set goals, commit to challenges and watch how everyone else in the DeakinMOVES community is progressing.
How did DeakinMOVES come about?
Deakin University is currently participating as one of 11 pilot universities in UniSport and Sport Australia’s joint initiative UniMoves, a program to get university staff and students moving for at least 30 minutes every day.
Each university in the program has their own tailored app for download on the App Store and Google Play. DeakinMOVES is our unique app, customised to allow all University staff and students to track their activity and join events. And, best of all, the DeakinMOVES app is free!
Why should I use DeakinMOVES?
One of the key objectives of the wider UniMoves project is to improve the health of university staff and students by encouraging more physical activity. The DeakinMOVES app will help you to do just that, by encouraging you to move more, track your progress, and join virtual University events and activities. You can even get involved in challenges created exclusively for Deakin students.
Given we’ll all be spending more time at home due to social distancing requirements, joining your fitness community online with DeakinMOVES will help you stay connected with your peers, motivated to boost your performance, and keep you strong and healthy.
What sort of activities can I do from home?
DeakinMOVES offers you many virtual workouts and activities, so choose one that suits you best! To begin with, we’ll be hosting daily home workouts including fitness challenges, stretching techniques and wellbeing practices. We’ll also be posting videos to show you exactly how to do bodyweight exercise techniques, so you can get fit from home even if you don’t have any fitness equipment.
