Deakin’s COVID-19 FAQs

Current Australian government travel restrictions and travel advice – 23 March 2020

What are the travel restrictions from the Australian Government?

Currently, only Australian citizens, residents and immediate family members can travel to Australia. All travellers returning to Australia are required by the Federal Government to serve a quarantine period of 14 days.

Please visit the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs website for the latest travel restrictions

Please callStudent Central  to discuss your study options while in isolation.

I have just arrived back in Australia, am I required to self-isolate?

Yes, the Australian Government and Department of Home Affairs require a mandatory 14-day self-isolation period prior to entering the community. The Department of Health provides advice for travellers returning to Australia.

There is more self-isolation information in the ‘About COVID-19’ section of these FAQs.

Can Deakin staff and students travel internationally?

No; after a thorough assessment of the situation, Deakin has banned all domestic and international work-related travel indefinitely. This includes planned Study Tours or other student travel approved, funded or arranged through Deakin.  Any Deakin staff member or student, returning from international travel must adhere to the Australian Federal Governments mandatory 14-day self-isolation requirement prior to attending any campus.

Read the Department of Health’s isolation guidelines.
