To succeed in the real world as a lawyer, you need real-world practice. Deakin Law Clinic provides this opportunity to Deakin law students during their degree.
Deakin Law Clinic is a community legal service and a teaching law firm based in the Melbourne CBD. It provides free legal advice and assistance to people experiencing disadvantage in the areas of civil law, commercial law, employment law, family law, venture law and criminal law. It also aims to educate the broader community in relation to their legal rights and access to justice issues.
Legal placements are available for Deakin law students at the Deakin Law Clinic under the supervision of qualified legal practitioners. You will analyse complex legal problems and develop critical skills for a career in the law, including analytical, drafting, oral communication, and problem-solving skills while gaining credit towards your degree.
Expressions of interest for the Deakin Law Clinic are now open for T3 and they close at 5pm on Friday 14 September 2018. Fill in the form now as places are strictly limited.
A placement with Deakin’s Law Clinic enables you to gain an appreciation of certain aspects of legal practice and to extend and deepen your theoretical knowledge and critical thinking skills while working in a legal environment. Student Joshua Lim reflected on his experience as ‘the most insightful and profound program I have participated in at Deakin Law School, and the skills learnt are something to be treasured wherever you go.’
