The Faculty of Business and Law is committed to offering students a rewarding business or legal education, and offering access to industry, professional networks and award-winning courses.
Are you looking for a challenge? The Deakin Law School is home to some of most talented moot court competitors in the world, particularly in the prestigious private international law mooting competition, the Vis Moot.
By getting involved in mooting, you’ll immerse yourself in an area of law, gain exceptional written and oral skills and have the chance to go head to head against students from across the globe in a simulated courtroom environment. You could also earn a credit point for MLL355 International Litigation and Dispute Settlement.
And, in preparing for the moot you will have many opportunities to meet with and learn from the most intelligent academics, practitioners and students in this area and have a unique learning experience that inspires your legal career.
Duncan Travis participated in the Vis Moot in 2000/2001 and is now a partner at Allens Linklaters. ‘Nothing in the study of law prepared me for practice better than doing the Vis Moot,’ he said. ‘As we approached the advocacy part of the Vis Moot, there was a cooperative intensity to the work that truly reflected the way you work together in practice to prepare for a trial.’
Applications for the 2018/2019 Vis Moot close on Wednesday 22 August 2018. To apply, email the following to Dr Shu Zhang at email@example.com:
- your CV
- a copy of your academic results (downloaded from StudentConnect)
- a short cover letter explaining your understanding of the moot and your availability during T3, 2018.
Deakin Law School is one of only five universities from more than 360 global competitors to have competed in each year of the history of the Vis Moot, which commenced in 1993. The Deakinl team has earned the title of World Champion twice, winning the Vis Moot in Vienna in 1998/1999 and 2013/2014 (it is also one of only four universities to have won the Vienna rounds twice). In addition, Deakin was the runner-up in 1995/1996. In 2017/2018, Deakin performed admirably once again, with one of our students taking an honourable mention for best speaker.
So, join the Deakin Vis Moot team this year and shape your legal studies and career.
