The safety of our students, staff and visitors is our highest priority. Every day, our security team works tirelessly in the background to keep all our campuses safe – especially during busy times like now, when there are lots of new people on campus.

But they can’t do it alone: sometimes they need your help. That’s why we implemented SafeZone.

SafeZone is a free app that connects to the Deakin Security team immediately. You can use it to get help in an emergency, call for First Aid or just talk to a friendly voice in less urgent situations. For example, you might want an escort to your car at night, you might have a visual impairment or another disability, or you might have seen something that makes you uncomfortable and you’re not sure what to do about it.

Head to the App Store (Apple) or Google Play (Android) on your phone, download the app and use the appropriate button if you ever feel unsafe on campus. It will send your name and location directly to our Security team. It’s available 24/7 on all campuses and it’s really easy to use, so you can rest assured there’s always help if you need it. It also features a bus timetable and tracker, information on how to stay safe and the ability to ‘check in’ so the security team know where you are (perfect for those solo, late-night study sessions).

You’ll need to register to use SafeZone (with your Deakin email), but this will allow you to enter important information such as medical conditions or mobility/access needs. Remember, if you download the app but you don’t register, our Security team won’t be able to receive your alerts, so don’t forget to complete the full registration process.

Download SafeZone now. It only takes a couple of minutes. SafeZone will make a huge difference to the safety of our campuses and our community. Our website also has answers to frequently asked questions about the app.

We’d also encourage you to pop the Deakin Security phone number (1800 062 579) into your contacts list just in case. In the case of an emergency, please call 000 immediately.
