How to ace your assignment

Got an assignment deadline looming? Here are five excellent Deakin resources you might not know about that will help you ace your assignment.

Assignment planner

If you’re not sure where to start with your assignment, check out Deakin’s Assignment Planner. This handy tool is designed to assist you by breaking down your assignment into manageable stages. Just enter the relevant dates for your assignment and you will receive your assignment plan with a suggested time frame and helpful resources on how to approach each stage. You can find it in DeakinSync under the Studying tab.

Academic Skills Guides

There’s an Academic Skills Guide for almost every stage of your assignment on the Study Support website. There are specific guides on difference assignment types such as essays, reports, reflective writing and oral presentations. Identify which type of assignment you have and then read the corresponding guide for tips on language, structure and presentation. There are also guides to researching your assignment, drafting your assignment, using Turnitin and improving your maths skills for different study areas.

Academic integrity

Academic integrity is about producing and submitting assessments in an honest and fair way, acting and communicating ethically, and showing respect for the work of others. It’s your responsibility to uphold academic integrity when submitting assignments. The Study Support website has a dedicated page which outlines exactly how you can do this.

Referencing

If you’re unsure about referencing or just want to get it exactly right, visit our referencing guide. There are guidelines for different referencing styles (remember to check your assignment to find out which style you should be using) and details about referencing a wide variety of sources, including digital sources such as blogs or social media posts.

Ask a Language and Learning Adviser

For further help with your assignment, you can always ask the Study Support team. Study Support is comprised of Language and Learning Advisers, Writing Mentors and Maths Mentors, who are available on campus and online. If you need help with writing or starting and completing your assignment, book a session now or just drop into the office.
