Meet Donna. Donna is working as an Education support / Integration aide and is in her first year of studying Deakin’s Associate degree of Education. This course is a pathway to Donna’s career goal of becoming a primary school teacher.
Why did you choose to study your course?
Donna: For the past 9 years I have either volunteered or worked in a school as a parent helper or education support worker/integration aide. I absolutely love working with students and assisting them in anyway that I can. I could not imagine myself working in any other field. So I decided to take the plunge and develop my skills further to become a primary teacher.
What do you like most about your course?
Donna: I have absolutely loved starting with the associate degree of education to bridge into primary education. I feel that this has given me the best start to university that I could have ever asked for. The whole experience so far has just felt right.
Can you tell us about your experience of any programs or clubs at Deakin?
Donna: I found the mentor program really beneficial to me, especially due to covid-19, our mentors went above and beyond to ensure that we felt connected and had a chance to just chat and reflect on what was happening and how we were coping.
