I undertook an internship at the Colac Herald while completing my third year of a Bachelor of Communication. This allowed me to comprehensively understand the fast paced nature of a newsroom and the skills required to begin my dream career. Completing an internship in the newsroom allowed me to implement the practical skills I had learnt at university, giving me the confidence that I had chosen the right career.
The biggest influence on my career has been the passion and drive of my tutors, who believed in their students and truly wished the best for them. All of my tutors knew me by name and it was clear they really cared about our learning. My tutors had extensive experience in the communications industry, which assured me that I was learning from the best. Without the support and industry connections of my tutors I would not be as confident or as skilled in my career as a journalist.
I currently work full-time at the Geelong Advertiser, which is where I dreamt of working while completing my bachelor degree. My role is fast-paced and every day is different, which makes the job challenging and fun.
