Ben Parsons is a graduate of the Master of Applied Learning and Teaching (course now titled Master of Applied Learning and Teaching (Secondary), becoming a VCAL teacher at the same school he completed his placement. Currently, he teaches year 11 students in the areas of literacy, numeracy, business studies, and religious education.

For Ben, the best part of studying at Deakin was his experience during placement. ‘The opportunity for students to complete 75 days of placement is an important experience in terms of pedagogy development and student interaction. The opportunity to be involved in the Deakin ASPIRE program was also an excellent experience as I worked collaboratively with teachers and lecturers to design units that motivate and entice under-represented students who otherwise may not have considered tertiary education,’ he says.

Ben loves teaching because he gets to ‘help students to achieve their goals and realise their potential, whilst seeing the difference that I can make in a young person’s life through educational achievement and personal growth.’
