Ngoc Vo is a recent graduate of the Bachelor of Creative Arts (Visual Communication Design). She chose the course because it allowed her to explore other creative disciplines alongside her design studies. ‘Besides all the core units, I could choose to enrol in animation and photography units, which help me expand my knowledge and further my interests,’ she says.

Reflecting on her favourite element of studying, Ngoc explains that, ‘What I love most about visual communication design at Deakin is understanding the creative process. There is a huge difference between the starting and endpoints. It is amazing to see everyone’s progress each week. We share and contribute our own ideas to help each other. We dare to fail and start again and we cannot believe what we achieve,’ she says.

Taking Visual Communication Design at Deakin has been the best experience in my life so far. I have met a lot of amazing people who share the same interests as me. I have received so much positive energy and lots of encouragement. Also, valuable advice from the teaching staff.

Ngoc’s proudest accomplishments have been winning the Collab16 graduate exhibition for Visible Steps and being chosen to showcase her work during the 2015 and 2016 Deakin Open Day Visual Communication Design exhibitions. If she could pass on any advice to future design students it would be to ‘trust yourself and go with your instinct.’

‘You cannot believe what you would be able to achieve with the endless amounts of courses available for students. It is beyond your imagination,’ she says.
