Kate Fitz-Gibbon awarded Women’s Trust grant to examine the killing of women in Victoria

VWBT colour logoDeakin criminologist Dr Kate Fitz-Gibbon has been awarded a 2015 General Grant by the Victorian Women’s Trust. Kate’s project, ‘The killing of women in Victoria – Examining risks of violence and points of intervention‘, aims to enhance current understandings of the killing of women and girls in Victoria.

Profile image 2Using case analysis and interviews with relevant stakeholders, the project will generate an in-depth understanding of the risks of violence and points of intervention common to cases of lethal violence against women finalised in the Victorian courts between January 2005 and December 2014. The findings will provide an evidence base to illuminate women’s experiences of lethal violence and to inform support services, prevention initiatives and justice system responses in Victoria.

The Victorian Women’s Trust is inspired by the vision of a just and humane society in which women enjoy full participation as citizens. Established in 1985 in recognition of women’s role in shaping Victoria, the Trust has positioned itself as one of Australia’s foremost women’s organisations. The Trust’s funding program aims to invest in women and effect social change.
