Introducing the latest member of the Deakin criminology team: Clare Farmer

We are delighted to introduce the latest addition to Deakin criminology, Dr Clare Farmer.

Clare completed her PhD in 2015 examining the growth of discretionary police powers in Victoria: their rationale, how they are monitored, and the consequences for due process and individual rights. Her broader interests include the challenge of balancing competing interests within/across the criminal justice system, youth crime, anti-social behaviour, human rights, and sentencing principles and practices.

Clare served as a Magistrate in the UK for a decade before completing a Masters degree in Legal and Criminological Psychology. Upon re-locating to Australia she took up doctoral research and has been teaching at Deakin for the past five years.

We are excited and pleased to have Dr Farmer on board!
