Deakin Criminologist appointed to the Board of the United Nations Association of Australia, Victorian Division.

Deakin’s Dr Wendy O’Brien has been appointed to the Board of the United Nations Association of Australia, Victorian Division (UNAAV).

The United Nations Association represents a vital link between the United Nations and citizens of its member states. In Australia, the Association is represented in every state and territory through its divisions and national body. The divisions work together to campaign in support of the UN and its current priorities such as the Sustainability Development Goals, human rights, gender equality, the environment, global health, and peace and security. Specific activities of the UNAAV include the annual Media Awards and the World Environment Day Awards.

In her role on the Board Wendy is responsible for the Human Rights portfolio, and in this capacity she will convene several human rights roundtables and seminars in the coming year. Wendy also represents the Board on the UNAA Status of Women Committee, which works to advance women’s rights and promote gender equality.
