Social justice, inclusive design and open educational practices: Seminar and discussion

The Australian Open Textbook project is pleased to invite you to a virtual seminar and discussion chaired by Matt Brett (Deakin University) with Anne Lennox, Associate Director, Library Services (Teaching and Research) (RMIT). Join us for this timely discussion as higher education deals with major changes in the wake of COVID-19, including the need for policy adjustments and equity initiatives to address local and international digital divides.

Anne Lennox is Associate Director, Library Services (Teaching and Research) at RMIT. In 2019, she received approval from the Academic Board to proceed with the development of the Open Educational Practices (OEP) Framework, which is currently in the review and feedback stage by the DVCE and the OEP Working Group. Anne’s work on the OEP framework at RMIT is intended to drive the adoption and advancement of open practices, with the goal of enhancing inclusive design and pedagogy in support of innovative learning and teaching.
Matt Brett oversees academic governance, academic policy, course governance, quality and standards at Deakin University. He has a longstanding commitment to student equity. He convened the 2011 National Summit on the Mental Health of Tertiary Students. Matt co-edited Student Equity in Australian Higher Education: 25 Years of A Fair Chance For All. He is an adjunct fellow with the National Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education.
This seminar is part of the ‘Australian Open Textbooks as social justice’ project which is currently interviewing students, academics, librarians and staff from various universities in Australia on the use of textbooks and the potential of adopting OER and diversification of content.
