The topic this year is “Challenging Cheating” which intentionally can be interpreted as having many meanings from the challenges that cheating poses to education, to challenging the very idea of cheating, and beyond – be prepared for contradictory perspectives to be unpacked. We are proud to host two exciting interactive public events as pivotal highlights of the symposium program. These include a Keynote Presentation and a Panel Session.

Our first event is a Keynote Presentation on Wednesday 12 October at 10am (AEDT) by Dr Sarah Eaton, associate professor at the Werklund School of Education, University of Calgary, who will problematicise the complex issues and challenges of academic ethics, integrity and ‘wicked problems’ such as contract cheating in her presentation “Academic Integrity as a Transdisciplinary Field of Research, Policy, and Practice.

Panel Session

We also invite you to take part in our second event, an Interactive Panel Session, to conclude the Symposium on Tuesday 18 October at 3pm (AEDT).  Our expert panellists will be:

Informed by the closed part of the Symposium, this session will attempt to unpack suppositions and shifting positions relating to cheating in higher education. We plan to collaborate to pick apart the taken-for-granted assumptions that surround cheating, and chart a new way forward.
