Linda Zheng tells us about her exciting CRADLE visit

CRADLE was pleased to host Linda Zheng of Shanghai University for her successful academic visitation recently. Linda participated in many research activities at CRADLE, made extremely valuable contributions to the team, and forged many enduring connections during her time. We are, of course, sad to see her visit come to an end but we are excited for future collaborations going forward. In this post Linda reflects on her time and work during her stay.

I am Linda Qiufang Zheng, an EAP (English for Academic Purposes) writing teacher from Shanghai University, China. I love teaching, learning, and writing. Since November 2023 I have been a visiting researcher at CRADLE. I have been collaborating with Deakin Distinguished Professor David Boud and Professor Phillip Dawson on a project to enhance student feedback literacy in Second Language (L2) Writing contexts. It has been an incredibly rewarding experience.

CRADLE is an ideal place for research in feedback and assessment. It has an exceptional team of experts in the area, who are always generous with their help. It also offers a diverse and inclusive environment, where you can easily find someone to share ideas and research experience with. Though my visit is now over, I am excited to continue this bond and connection. As part of Professor Dawson’s ongoing ARC project and Dr Joanna Tai’s work on feedback literacy, I look forward to further collaborations with my wonderful CRADLE colleagues.

Currently, I am also exploring the concept and practice of assessment as learning in academic writing contexts. If any Cradlers (apologies for coining this term) are interested in collaborative or comparative research on feedback and assessment in L2 writing or EFL/ESL contexts, please feel free to reach out to me.
