Juuso Nieminen awarded prestigious Erik De Corte award

We are thrilled to announce that Dr Juuso Henrik Nieminen, Senior Research Fellow with CRADLE, has been awarded the Erik De Corte award at the European Association for Research on Learning and Instruction (EARLI) 2025 Conference, in Graz, Austria! The Erik De Corte Award is presented at each biennial EARLI Conference to recognise an early career researcher who demonstrates exceptional promise in the field of Learning and Instruction. It also recognises innovative value of publications and significant contribution in quality research.

The award was granted by Professor Erik De Corte and the EARLI President Professor Lucia Mason. The award committee recognised Dr Nieminen’s extensive work on the social effects of educational assessment, and emphasised the interdisciplinary nature of his work.

This year, the Erik De Corte award was shared between two candidates. Warm congratulations to Dr Carolien Knoop-van Campen from Radboud University, Netherlands, for being awarded too!

About Juuso


Juuso Nieminen is a Senior Research Fellow with CRADLE and has been collaborating with CRADLE since his PhD candidature in 2018 at the University of Helsinki.

Juuso focuses on the social, cultural, and political dimensions of educational assessment. This includes student agency, assessment design and student identity formation. Juuso’s work also covers inclusion, diversity, and belonging in higher education. He is particularly interested in examining how assessment takes shape, and shapes people, in a social world.
