UPDATE: applications for this round of PhD scholarships are now closed.

We’re excited to announce that two prestigious PhD scholarships with CRADLE are now open to both domestic and international students. If you’re interested in assessment in higher education, come and study with us at CRADLE!

Two PhD scholarship opportunities are currently available with CRADLE in the area of ‘assessment in higher education’. Students will be based at CRADLE’s vibrant Melbourne CBD location, Deakin Downtown, and will have the chance to work with our team of leading higher education researchers: Prof. David Boud, A/Prof. Phillip Dawson, A/Prof. Margaret Bearman, Dr. Rola Ajjawi, and Dr. Joanna Tai.

We are interested in topics that align with one or more areas of our research program, and particularly in research around upcoming CRADLE research projects. Potential PhD topics include – but are not limited to! – feedback for learning, academic integrity and contract cheating, MOOCs, and peer assessment. For further information about potential PhD topics and associated supervisors, please visit the PhD information page [now closed]. If you would like to know more about the experiences of our current PhD students, why not check out their blog posts?

Do you know any domestic or international students who may be interested in our PhD scholarships? Let them know about this exciting opportunity!

Please direct all initial enquiries to CRADLE’s Associate Director, A/Prof. Phillip Dawson – get in touch via email or on (+61 3) 9244 5259.

      Hi Irfan,
Thank you for your interest in the CRADLE PhD scholarships. Unfortunately, our scholarships are only available to students undertaking research in the area of assessment in higher education, and so your research in geochemistry and environmental chemistry would not be a suitable match for this scholarship. Please check Deakin’s scholarships page to see whether Deakin is currently offering any scholarships that might be right for you.
      Best wishes,
      Paige

  • Hello Paige
I am a PhD student at one of the Australian Universities, School of Education, where I was awarded a RTP scholarship and commenced my course about 4 months ago (on 15/03/2017). Sincerely speaking, I found the department weak, so I decided to change my university and transfer to Deakin university to have a rich and rewarding PhD experience. I have already submitted my application to Deakin’s Faculty of Arts & Education and, as my supervisor Dr. Glenn Auld has confirmed, I will soon receive my candidature offer. However, as my RTP scholarship does not transfer with me to the new university, and since, as you know, a successful PhD student need a source of funding to devote a very substantial portion of their time and attention to their project, I found it dificult to focus on my work without scholarship. As I was searching for Deakin’s scholarships, I found that CRADLE is offering two scholarships for PhD students whose projects center around assessment and feedback in higher education, which is exactly in line with my PhD topic.
As for my academic background, during my Master program I worked on many research activities and was hired to teach Advanced Writing to senior BA students, an experience that turned my main research interest into the broad field of writing, and recently the role of feedback and assessment in writing context. It was also the main factor underlying my desire to pursue my PhD, which focus on the effect of electronic corrective feedback on writers’ self-regulation skills. The proposed title is “Corrective Feedback in Self-Organising Learning Environment: Designing Innovation for Writing Support”.
I have been working in the area of assessment and feedback in second language education for the last two years, with two of my papers being accepted for publication.
So I wonder if I stand any chance of receiving this scholarship. Thank you for your advice
