Dr Joughin is a higher education consultant working with CRADLE on decision-making in assessment and evaluation. He is a major figure in assessment research and is the leading researcher in Australia in the areas of the spoken versus the written word in assessment and learning. His current research considers decision-making theory in assessment design and the nature of spoken work in oral assessment. He has co-authored four published papers with CRADLE surrounding reframing assessment practices, designing assessments and students’ evaluative judgements, with additional publications to follow. He has been involved in collaborative research and evaluation projects, the most recent being the evaluation of international staff and student experiences of collaboration in an international, cross-institutional online degree with University Coventry.

Dr Joughin is a former Director of the Teaching and Educational Development Institute (TEDI) at the University of Queensland. He has published extensively on assessment and learning in higher education, including editing Assessment, Learning and Judgement (Springer, 2009).
