Australia and New Zealand based researchers are invited to apply for our 2026 Visiting Scholars Scheme

We are pleased to announce applications for the CRADLE Visiting Scholars Scheme 2026 are now open.

The Scheme offers support for Australia and New Zealand based researchers with aligned areas of interest to visit CRADLE at Deakin Downtown in the Melbourne CBD and provides the opportunity for intensive collaboration with the CRADLE team.

Aim of the scheme


The aim of the scheme is to accelerate collaborative efforts with CRADLE’s research partners, offering an opportunity for more intensive work.

The scheme offers support for researchers based in Australia or New Zealand with aligned areas of expertise to physically visit CRADLE at Deakin Downtown in the Melbourne CBD, for in-person collaborative work, mutual exchange, and research capacity building.

We invite applications from qualified researchers in Australia and New Zealand at any stage of their career to apply for the scheme.

What’s on offer?


  • Funding: $5,000 to $10,000 AUD to support the proposed stay and associated travel expenses
  • Timeframe: A visit of at least 1-2 weeks in 2026
  • Collaboration: Accelerate partnerships and projects
  • Connection: Take part in CRADLE’s vibrant research community.

Who can apply?


If you reside in Australia or New Zealand, have a strong research track record, and your research interests align with CRADLE, we’d love to hear from you! You can apply at any career stage, whether you’re an early career researcher or an established researcher. Please see our FAQs for more information about eligibility.

Please note: we are only able to accept applications from researchers in Australia and New Zealand at this time

Application Criteria


Applications will be assessed on the following criteria:

  • Aligned research interests to CRADLE’s research agenda
  • Affiliation with an Australian or New Zealand higher education institution
  • Outstanding track record of research relative to opportunity (e.g. grants, publications, other outputs)
  • Willing to travel to Melbourne and attend Deakin Downtown in person, for a minimum of 1-2 weeks
  • Clear plan for collaborative activities with CRADLE researchers during the visit that:
    • Identifies named researchers, with one CRADLE staff researcher as the primary host
    • Includes rationale for involvement – expertise or capacity building
    • Has specific outputs or outcomes proposed (e.g. publications, grant proposal, plan for future project)
    • Proposes one seminar/workshop on an area of the visitor’s expertise, which can be delivered in partnership with CRADLE during the visit
  • Budget for the visit (including acknowledgement of any contributions from the home institution, other grants, etc)
