Awards and grant success for CRADLE

Summer is here, and we are pleased to announce Vice-Chancellor’s teaching awards and another $100K grant success for CRADLE researchers.

Congratulations to CRADLE’s Assoc. Director Dr Phillip Dawson and esteemed colleague Ms Susie Macfarlane (also CRADLE PhD student) who were presented with their Vice Chancellor’s Outstanding Teaching Award last week. They were part of the award winning team for their “Career Readiness for Undergraduates” project in 2017 with Phill contributing evaluation research expertise. Susie Macfarlane came away with arms full of certificates – she and colleauge Ms Darci Taylor (also CRADLE PhD student) also took home awards as part of the Diabetes Education FutureLearn team.

Congratulations also to CRADLE’s Dr Rola Ajjawi for a successful $99,964 collaborative grant outcome from the Gold Coast Health and Gold Coast Hospital Foundation Large Research Grant Scheme. Rola and colleagues will be working on: “Enriching medical trainees’ learning through practice: towards a focus on patient-inclusive learning.”

Using video-reflexive ethnography, their study seeks to identify and appraise how effective practice-based learning can occur within contemporary work practices for early year doctors. This study will examine the contemporary circumstances of doctors’ practice, that is the everyday activities and interactions of patient care as they engage with medical students and junior doctors to map the ways in which guidance and learning support is enacted.

This is important because contemporary medical workplace factors – including the intensity of work, changed working relations and ways of working – challenge the efficacy of the traditional workplace learning model.
