Australian Open Textbooks Project: Social justice, inclusive design and open educational practices seminar

On Thursday 9 July, Dr. Sarah Lambert hosted a virtual seminar and discussion as part of the Australian Open Textbooks Project. There was great interest in the event’s topic, ‘Social justice, inclusive design and RMIT’s Open Educational Practices (OEP) Framework’, and 130 participants attended not only from around Australia but from different parts of the world.

The seminar, which was chaired by Matt Brett (Director of Academic Governance and Standards, Deakin University) with Anne Lennox (Associate Director of Library Services Teaching and Research, RMIT), revolved around a discussion of the need for policy adjustments and equity initiatives to address local and international digital divides. The discussions were timely as higher education deals with major changes in the wake of COVID-19. A full video recording of the session is now available to view here:

The Australian Open Textbooks Project is currently interviewing students, academics, librarians and staff from various universities in Australia on the use of textbooks and the potential of adopting Open Educational Resources (OER) and diversification of content.
