Counting on U for People Leaders New Zealand

We are pleased to announce having won additional funding through Deakin Business School’s International Research Translation Scheme which will provide up to 40 free NZ training spots to pilot a new people leaders’ Counting on U program commencing October 2023.

  • The program involves a people leaders’ Supportive Leadership Training (SLT) module + Mental Health First Aid® (MHFA®) for Workplaces module + a Booster module, which we are developing in collaboration with our NZ accredited training partner, Humanex:
      • The SLT module will focus on cultivating supportive leadership competencies for team wellbeing, with an emphasis on creating psychologically safe teams. See below for participant journey and research requirements.
      • The Mental Health First Aid® (MHFA®) module teaches participants how to identify and provide support to those with the most common mental health conditions until they are able to seek professional help.
      • The Booster session further consolidates these skills by giving participants the chance to debrief with a trained expert, practice more scenarios and activities, and learn from each other through sharing of knowledge and experiences.
    • As this is a funded research program, you will be invited to:
      • complete 2 short surveys: the first asks for feedback on the quality of the training and instructors, and the second asks about your demonstration of leadership behaviours post-training.  Participants who complete both surveys will automatically go into the draw for a NZD $150 Prezzee e-Voucher.
      • participate in a 10 minute focus group session, included as part of the Booster workshop, to provide us with overall feedback, comments and suggestions on the course.
    • The custom designed People Leaders course will be made available across Australia and New Zealand in early 2024. To find out more about CoU custom training solutions, please visit: Bespoke Solutions.

    Why People Leaders?

    • Research has shown that supervisor support is one of the most influential factors on psychological health and safety in the workplace
    • For many organisations, workplace wellbeing continues to be of great and growing importance especially during times of economic uncertainty, conflict and natural disasters
    • This course helps you to learn the skills and confidence to respond to and support distressed team members, clients or colleagues, refer them to professional support and services (where appropriate) and look after yourself whilst supporting others.
