POWERFUL OWLS AND ECOLOGY

A10W2202-Edit.jpg

The Ninox strenua, better known as the powerful owl, is Australia's largest owl species found throughout Eastern and South Eastern parts of the country. The powerful owls finds roosting spots in forests and woodlands, in which it seeks old trees to create nesting hollows in. The owl feeds on other mammals in surrounding territory, foraging throughout trees and swooping on it's prey. The impacts of urbanisation are endangering the lives of many powerful owls as not only are nesting areas being taken away from them but also food sources becoming insufficient to sustain life (NSW Government 2017).
