Research

Our research draws on a range of modern neuroscience techniques to understand the brain in both health and disease.
A central part of this work involves non-invasive brain stimulation, particularly transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and transcranial electrical stimulation (tES), which allow us to safely modulate brain activity and probe the mechanisms underlying healthy and disrupted brain function.
We combine these tools with cognitive and neuroimaging methods to build a richer picture of how the brain works, including:
- EEG: records the brain’s electrical activity in real time, capturing rapid changes in neural signalling with millisecond precision
- TMS-EEG: combines brain stimulation with EEG recording to measure how targeted brain regions respond and communicate when directly activated
- fMRI: maps brain activity by detecting changes in blood oxygenation, revealing which regions are engaged during tasks or at rest
- MRS: measures the concentration of specific neurochemicals in the brain, such as GABA and glutamate
