Purpose
The REDI Education Governance and Policy (EGP) research group is holding a series of monthly seminars to share the work of researchers working in this field. The EGP seminar program seeks to provide insights into leading research in the field of education policy and governance in schools, VET, higher and international education. Seminars will be organised by Professor Jill Blackmore and Dr Ben Arnold, and will usually take place on the first Wednesday of each month between 2.00 pm—3.00 pm – please note that this particular seminar has been re-scheduled from the previously advertised date of Wednesday 5 May.

International Education: Insights, Challenges and Prospects

In this seminar, Ly Tran will discuss how she has developed her research program on international education and higher education in Vietnam over the past 14 years. She will address key principles underpinning and emerging issues related to her research on international students, student mobilities, international student graduate employability, Australian students’ learning in the Indo-Pacific, international education as public diplomacy, education-migration nexus and staff professional learning in international education. She will reflect on her journey as an international academic at different Australian universities and how that shapes her research. The presentation will last for 35 minutes and will be followed by questions. This will provide opportunities for discussions between established researchers, Early Career Researchers and HDR candidates about the major issues in the field of international education and future research possibilities.

 

Researcher Biography

Ly Tran (PhD) is a Professor in the School of Education, Deakin University and an Australian Research Council Future Fellow. She was an academic at Hue University, Vietnam, prior to coming to Australia. Her research focuses on internationalisation of education, student mobilities, international student graduate employability, and Vietnamese higher education. She also undertakes research on higher education, vocational education and graduate employability in Vietnam.
