Mark Duckworth appeared along with Prof Michele Grossman, Dr Josh Roose and Lydia Khalil to give evidence to the Parliamentary Joint Standing Committee on Intelligence and Security Inquiry into extremist movements and radicalism in Australia. Watch the hearing here.

Prof John Powers delivered a lecture for the Rutgers University Religion Department entitled: “Can Ultimate Reality Change? Controversies Regarding the Yogācāra School’s Path to Liberation” in preparation for submission of a final version of this study to the Bulletin of the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.

On 29 April, Dr Thao Phan appeared at Melbourne Knowledge Week at a live experimental event on ‘More Human Than Human?’ alongside Deakin colleagues Prof Sean Redmon, Dr Leonard Hoon, Dr Helen Young, and Dr Evie Kendal (Swinburne).

Prof John Powers published an article entitled “The Body of the Buddha” in the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Religion. It focuses on how the Buddha’s body was conceived by Indian Buddhists, with a particular emphasis on how it testifies to his advanced meditative attainments.

Dr Luke Heemsbergen’s project on communicating climate change in extended reality kicked off at Melbourne Knowledge Week with City of Melbourne and FIKA as external partners. Led by Jordan Vincent (FIKA/Deakin) the work provides a first step in considering how public data visualisations can inspire positive changes for the health of our environment.
