T1, 2021 ORIENTATION

The T1 Orientation period is in full swing and our faculty WIL team, in close collaboration with our Schools, Institute and Student Experience Team are in the final stages of managing our faculty participation for O-Week.  Our Arts and Education T1 Orientation program will include 56 ArtsEd Course online course information and welcome sessions.  THANK YOU to all of our academic staff supporting this very important welcome experience for our new commencing undergraduate and postgraduate students.   Our online faculty welcome sessions are complimented by a comprehensive range of campus activations and events delivered by the central Division of Student Life.  A few important links you may find useful include:

PEER MENTOR PROGRAM RESTING IN 2021

The ArtsEd Peer Mentoring Program will be resting in 2021. For 10 years the program has been an important outlet for faculty students to build connections with peers and support their transition into university life with confidence. With more than 40 mentoring programs available across Deakin, we can be assured these opportunities to connect, build skills and confidence remain extensively available.  The full range of these programs can be found here: www.deakin.edu.au/students/studying/students-helping-students-hub

New students will continue to be connected with mentoring opportunities across the university. Our continuing students will continue to be connected with leadership opportunities within Deakin.  The WIL team are working closely with the Students Helping Students network within the Division of Student Life (DSL), to ensure our faculty communications enable students to access the support they need, and DSL programs continue to cater to the needs of our faculty students.

OPEN DAY 2021 – DEAKIN OPEN ALL YEAR

As 2021 is likely to present continuing and changing COVID restrictions, an ‘open all year’ program of recruitment events has been established, to provide flexibility and certainty. Our priority is to get prospective students and their families back onto our campuses in a way that will meet government and university guidelines, including on campus capacity constraints, physical distancing and COVID Safe measures.

Virtual Open Day

We are pleased to confirm our 2021 Open Days Program. With continuing restrictions likely, Deakin will optimise last year’s virtual program, to again deliver a digital experience, which will be complemented by on campus activities, outlined further below. Virtual Open Day 2020 was an overwhelming success, with 64,000 visitors joining us online. The format for 2021 will largely follow the same format as 2020, including an initial and encore event, pre-recorded course information sessions followed by a live question and answer program, with web chat available throughout the day. The Virtual Open Days are major events for the University that will continue to require significant focus and support from both academic and professional staff.  Our marketing team will reach out in March and April to provide further information about how we will manage our faculty representation at Open Day.

Campus Tours

In 2021, a variation of our traditional Campus Open Day events will be run throughout the year, focused on tours across all campuses to showcase Deakin’s facilities and the environment. These Campus Tours will be held over the April, June/July and September school holidays and the format will be led by our current students with a key focus on study areas of interest across our campuses and life at Deakin.  The format of these events will provide us the flexibility to turn programs on and off as and if required to meet the unpredictable COVID environment.  These campus tours will be delivered by the Marketing Division, however faculties and business units can choose to activate key areas to complement the campus tours. A marketing and communications approach will be developed to support the promotion of these events throughout the year and the marketing team will be in touch about this shortly.
