RIA event: The Collaborative Authorship agreement for Researchers, 30 September, 2pm

All researchers, HDR/E-MCRs and beyond, are warmly invited to this second RIA event:

Title: The Collaborative Authorship Agreement for Researchers

Presenters: Rea Dennis (SCCA HDR co-convener), Andrew Skourdoumbis (SoE), Andrew Singleton (SHSS) and Maree Pardy (SHSS).

Facilitators:

Faculty Research Integrity Advisors, Toija Cinque (SCCA) and Glenn Auld (SoE).

 Workshop Description:

Authors are responsible for the accuracy and integrity of their contribution, and must take reasonable steps to ensure the accuracy and integrity of co-author contributions. They must address any concerns about the research prior to submission, and approve the final output. They must be able to address any concerns about the research after publication, and are responsible for corrections/retractions.

Last year Deakin revised the Authorship Procedure Policy. The policy covers criteria of authorship, Co-author and multiple author agreement, reporting and record keeping and dispute resolution. The author agreement is to be completed for all publications where there is more than one author. This Authorship Statement includes a section for agreements on publications with HDR students. Authorship Statements clarify roles and responsibilities of each author giving integrity to the research in authoring of publications.

The workshop covers the Authorship Procedure policy and provides hands on experience about how to approach such agreements. The topics covered in the workshop will be:

  • What is the authorship agreement?
  • When is an authorship agreement needed?
  • Why have an authorship agreement?
  • How to complete an authorship agreement?
  • How to resolve issues around authorship?

This event will unpack your responsibilities as an author and will include case studies for discussion.
