Research Peer Review: Offering Expert Critique in the Journal and Book Publication Process, 26 August, 9am

All researchers, HDR/E-MCR and beyond, are warmly invited to this first RIA event: Research Peer Review: Offering Expert Critique in the Journal and Book Publication Process with international guest speaker, Associate Professor Alessandra Raengo (Georgia State University), founding Editor-in-chief of Liquid blackness (now with Duke UP), a creative practitioner and researcher both.

Title: Research Peer Review: Offering Expert Critique in the Journal and Book Publication Process

Presenters: Associate Professor Alessandra Raengo (Georgia State University), Associate Professor, Emily Potter (Associate Head of School, Research, Deakin) and Dr Helen Young (HDR co-convenor, Deakin).

Facilitator: Toija Cinque (Faculty Research Integrity Advisor, Deakin)

 Description:

This event is for those curious about the processes of establishing a journal or editing a book, the blind peer-review process and selecting appropriate materials for scholarly publication. According to Deakin’s Research Peer Review Procedure:

The Research Peer Review process requires the impartial and independent assessment of research by others working in the same or related field. It provides scrutiny of proposed research or research outputs and helps to maintain high standards in research, including by ensuring that accepted disciplinary standards are met. Peer review covers a range of activities associated with the scrutiny of research or research outputs.

Amongst other important aspects, Associate Professor Alessandra Raengo will talk about their experience with getting the Liquid Blackness journal off the ground and the decisions that were made in both selecting art materials and scholarly materials, and how to offer ‘mentorship’ until ready for publication/exhibition.

They will be joined by Associate Professor, Emily Potter (Associate Head of School, Research, Deakin, and Co-editor Journal of Australian Studies) and Dr Helen Young (HDR co-convenor, Deakin, and Series editor Bloomsbury New Directions in Medieval Studies). Each will overview their experiences and thoughts with Q&A to follow. Refer to flyer:  RIA Peer Review Event FLYER.
